Montreal, Canada (PRWEB) September 30, 2008
Messaging Architects, the experts in email lifecycle management and compliance, today announced the successful implementation of its M+Guardian email firewall across Novell's enterprise worldwide. M+Guardian is being used to filter more than one million messages that attempt to enter the company's GroupWise system each day, and block unwanted Spam, viruses, data leaks and other security threats.
"Email is a business-critical application for Novell," said Jamie Sanders, GroupWise Systems Support Engineer at Novell. "We can't afford any disruptions to the system, even for the shortest period of time."
Like many organizations, 90% of Novell's incoming email are either Spam or contain a virus. M+Guardian ensures these messages are blocked right at the gateway, before they have a chance to bog down system performance or disrupt operations.
Novell first began using Messaging Architects' email firewall solution five years ago when a "Blaster" type virus storm threatened the company's GroupWise system with a denial of service (DoS) attack. Earlier this year the company migrated to M+Guardian, Messaging Architect's next-generation Linux-based solution.
"The Linux platform has given M+Guardian better overall reliability," said Sanders. "There also is a dramatic improvement in performance. I can say to anyone contemplating a move to M+Guardian: take the leap. It's a much improved system."
The new M+Guardian application leverages the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server platform and combines leading anti-virus, anti-Spam and content filtering technology with true application-level clustering and load balancing to ensure 24/7 email security and the highest possible system performance. Moreover, its unique policy engine filters and blocks email intelligently based on users' identities and roles within the organization to meet the most complex and stringent compliance requirements. Policies are stored in Novell's eDirectory, providing a single point of administration for configuring and managing all user information.
Further, M+Guardian provides all employees at Novell with an intuitive interface for managing the spam trapped in their individual quarantine. This includes the ability to release valid email, report a spam message, and black-list or white-list a sender. Empowering end users to manage their own messages relieves IT staff from this responsibility and frees them up to focus on more strategic projects.
"Messaging Architects has been a strong Novell technology partner," added Jared Jensen, IT Manager Messaging and Collaboration at Novell. "The excellent performance we see from M+Guardian further validates the robust and stable development platform the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server has to offer." Deploying M+Guardian at Novell's data center also supports the company's strategic decision to move towards Linux-based solutions across its enterprise, confirmed Jensen.
Migrating Guardian to the Linux platform has also been positively received by analysts. The new and improved M+Guardian is positioned in Gartner Research's 2008 Magic Quadrant for Email Security Boundaries. On-goin g technological innovation is on the horizon with Mark Crispin, the inventor of the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), joining Messaging Architects' R&D team to complete the company's vision of superior email infrastructure.
M+Guardian is available immediately as a physical appliance or as a virtual server for VMware. It is compatible with all standard email servers, including Microsoft Exchange, IBM Domino and Novell GroupWise. For more information, visit http://www.messagingarchitects.com/mplusguardian.
M+Guardian is a component of the M+ Email Lifecycle Management platform. It helps organizations move beyond 1st generation point solutions that are complex to manage and expensive to own, towards a far more effective approach to risk management - one that is based on the dual concept of managing both the identity of the user and their role inside the organization. The result is a risk-free Messaging and Collaboration infrastructure that is both robust and secure, and which fully complies with all applicable laws and regulations. Fully integrated with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino and Novell GroupWise, the M+ platform delivers risk-free email to over 10 million end-users worldwide.
