Xsigo was singled out for its ground-breaking technology that accelerates data center management by replacing conventional server I/O (input/output) with virtual connectivity. Reduced costs, lower power consumption, and remote management were cited as notable benefits of the Xsigo product offerings.

Out of 700 nominees, Xsigo was selected based on two key criteria - does the innovation represent a breakthrough from conventional ideas or methods in its field, and does it go beyond incremental improvements in technologies that already exist? "This prestigious award underscores our technology innovation that delivers new levels of data center optimization through the use of I/O virtualization," said Lloyd Carney, CEO of Xsigo. "Our customers agree that by virtualizing their server I/O infrastructure they dramatically increase both data center agility and resource utilization, which helps them to do more with the resources they have."

Xsigo technology consolidates a data center's I/O infrastructure and replaces physical network and storage interfaces (NICs and HBAs) with virtual resources that are remotely manageable from a single console. The Xsigo solution works with today's existing infrastructure, and incorporates a modular design that is easily adapted to accommodate new networks, servers, and interconnect standards. Earlier this month, Xsigo launched its newest product, the VP780 x2 which helps data centers achieve up to 50% less capital cost, uses 70% fewer cables and delivers a 100% increase in server connectivity speed.

Awards and Accolades
In addition to The Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award, Xsigo received a number of accolades over the past 12 months. Storage Magazine named Xsigo "Product of the Year" in the networking equipment category; Byte and Switch identified Xsigo as a "Top 10 Storage Startups to Watch"; Virtualization Review Magazine named Xsigo a "Take Five: Innovative Vendor"; and eWeek identified Xsigo's I/O Director as a "Top 10 Disruptive New Storage Technology".
