SSBC Puts the Brakes on World's Fastest Production Car

Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation (SSBC) supplied Force 10® aluminum brake calipers for the Shelby SuperCars' (SSC) Ultimate Aero that established a new mark for "Fastest Production Car" as recognized by Guinness World Records™. SSBC brakes are now standard equipment on all Ultimate Aeros that leave SSC's West Richland, Wash. production facility.

Clarence, NY (PRWEB) January 14, 2008 -- Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation (SSBC), the leading manufacturer of performance disc brake kits and accessories, today announced its role in helping Shelby SuperCars' (SSC) Ultimate Aero establish a new mark for "Fastest Production Car" as recognized by Guinness World Records™.

SSBC supplied Force 10® eight-piston aluminum brake calipers for the front end and Force 10 six-piston calipers for the rear, reducing the distance needed for the Ultimate Aero to stop by about 25 percent over competing brakes. And as a result of this collaboration, SSBC brakes are now standard equipment on all Ultimate Aeros that leave SSC's West Richland, Wash. production facility.

"The Ultimate Aero has completely redefined the perfect driving experience, delivering unparalleled performance and style in world-record fashion," said Jerod Shelby, owner/manager of SSC. "The ultimate production car demands the ultimate in braking power, and that's why we selected SSBC brakes. While light in weight, SSBC brakes supply the heavy-duty braking power the Ultimate Aero required in our record-breaking speed trials."

SSC staged its record-setting runs on Sept. 13, 2007, on a remote, 3-1/2-mile stretch of Highway 221 near Paterson, WA. The Ultimate Aero reached an average top speed of 256.19 mph, shattering by 15.09 mph the official mark previously held by Koenigsegg CCR. This is the first time this record has been held by a U.S. auto manufacturer in 40 years.

With 1183 bhp and 1094 ft-lbs of torque, the Ultimate Aero produces more emissions-legal horsepower than any other production automobile in the world. Designed to run at redline for extended periods of time, the Ultimate Aero remains remarkably drivable with a proprietary twin-turbo V8 power plant, custom Recaro seats, a ten-speaker premium sound system, DVD/navigation/backup camera and a cab-controlled lift that raises the front an extra four inches to navigate road hazards.

SSBC custom-designed the Force 10 calipers used on the SSC Ultimate Aero to fine tune the stopping power of the brakes to the car's specific front-to-back weight ratio. While most cars on the road today require more braking power up front, the Ultimate Aero needs stopping power evenly distributed between the front and rear axles.

Force 10 brake calipers are manufactured from lightweight aluminum to drastically reduce the amount of unsprung weight on the vehicle and improve ride quality. These calipers feature stainless steel pistons that resist corrosion and help insulate the brake fluid against fade-inducing heat. All brake components from SSBC are subjected to rigorous computerized stress analysis to maximize product quality and passenger safety.

"SSC invested seven years developing the Ultimate Aero to be the fastest production car on the planet," said Michael Jonas, president of SSBC. "We are thrilled that SSC trusted their investment with the same high-quality brakes that are available for most owners of classic muscle cars, late model performance vehicles, street rods and customs, trucks, SUVs and sport compacts."
