Trinity Consultants Assists City of Flagstaff, AZ With Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management

Trinity Consultants was selected to assist Flagstaff in reducing generated greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2012.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) January 13, 2008 -- Nationwide environmental consulting firm Trinity Consultants was selected by the city of Flagstaff, Arizona to assist in fulfilling its commitment to reducing locally generated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As part of its participation in the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, the City committed to exceeding Kyoto Protocol targets and reducing locally generated GHG emissions seven percent from 1990 levels by 2012. Trinity Consultants is assisting with preparing a comprehensive GHG emissions inventory, identifying appropriate climate change mitigation strategies, and developing a climate change management plan that will enable the City to meet its GHG emissions reduction goals.

During the first, foundational step in the process, the project team will identify and quantify GHG emissions from community sectors (including residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, waste, and other sources) and municipal operations (including buildings, vehicles, employee commuting, streetlights, water/sewage, waste, and other sources.) The team will document estimated emissions for the six GHGs and black carbon for 1990, 2004 or 2005, projected 2012, and projected 2020. Key parameters vary by sector including fuel and electricity consumption within the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors; vehicle type and fuel usage for transportation sources; and decomposition rates under various scenarios for waste treatment. With 33 years of experience in quantifying air emissions, Trinity has the expertise to specify and execute this data intensive effort.

Once the GHG emissions inventory is complete, the project team will recommend best practice GHG mitigation strategies that will enable the city to balance potential reductions, cost, and quality of life factors. Recommended strategies will address issues such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transport, waste reduction, carbon sequestration, and partnership leveraging. Trinity will document the baseline GHG emissions inventory and GHG emissions reduction strategies in a report that will serve as a blueprint for the city's future GHG reductions efforts.

Founded in 1974, Trinity Consultants has offices in 24 U.S. cities and China and performs over 2000 environmental consulting projects annually related to environmental management issues. Trinity also provides environmental modeling software, training for EH&S professionals, and staffing services for EH&S positions.
