Coddington Offers Sneak Peek of Coach Built Hot Rod at N.A.I.A.S.

Hot Rodding Legend Proves his Design and Construction Prowess With "French Connection"

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) January 17, 2008 -- The North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan is usually a showground reserved for the major auto manufacturers. This January as auto executives from around the globe converge on Detroit they will see more than concept cars and production newbies. Boyd Coddington, the hot rod legend from Southern California will show his newest creation; the "French Connection".

Coddington, the multi-award winning designer, fabricator and alumni of the Hot Rod Hall of Fame brought to Detroit a coach-built masterpiece as a sneak peek for the auto industry. The "French Connection" follows in a succession of coach built cars that Coddington has conceptualized and constructed in his Southern California shops. The "French Connection" closely follows in the tradition of the great coach builders of the early 1900's but with a distinctly hot rod flair.

"Unlike 'CadZZilla' and 'CheZoom' that were based on American cars, the 'French Connection' was greatly influenced by the Delahaye automobiles and the designs of those such as Figoni et Falaschi. These coach-built cars from the early 1900's have such beautiful lines and brightwork that they have always intrigued me," said Coddington.

Not the first hot rod to be largely influenced by the great French built cars of the early 20th century, the "French Connection" was preceded by Boyd's "What-the-Haye" a much smaller coupe. The "French Connection" is nearly 200" of flowing hand-shaped aluminum and steel. Accented by specially made bright chrome, the car has a chassis that features independent front suspension and a live rear axle. Standing just 4' tall, this roadster is long, low and fast with a vicious aluminum V12 matted to an automatic transmission.

Surrounding the driver is exotic Ostrich hyde and a custom instrument panel that oozes opulence. The coach-crafted body is finished in black over the signature Boyd Red and is then highlighted by the stainless steel grill.
