The Journey Really Begins for Fashion Designer, Bibhu Mohapatra

Bibhu Mohapatra will launch his new label with an exclusive, refined and very elegant women's wear capsule collection for Spring 2009.

(PRWEB) January 23, 2008 -- Bibhu Mohapatra, head of the new luxury brand of the same name, is based in New York.

Growing up in the Indian state of Orissa, Bibhu always had a strong passion for fashion.

Inspired by the sumptuous Indian fabrics, sarees, arts and crafts, he started designing clothes at an early age for his sisters. After his B. A. in economics in his home state of Orissa, his journey to the United States started with a master's degree in economics at Utah State University. Then his passion for designing clothes drove him to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. He graduated with flying colors and was awarded the prestigious Anthony Muto Critic Award.

After earning his master's degree in fashion design, Bibhu took the assistant designer's position at Halston. During his year and half tenure at Halson, Bibhu proved his talent for luxury women's wear and soon the industry noticed.

When Mr. Mendel of the brand, J Mendel, was seeking to repackage his label into a broader more youthful brand, he went looking for fresh talent to help him realize his vision. He approached Bibhu Mohapatra. Bibhu joined the company at the end of 1998 as assistant designer and quickly became the Design Director.

During 8 years as the head of design at J. Mendel, Bibhu helped to transform the former fur house, into the most sought after and exclusive New York based luxury label. His creations are often seen in Vogue, Elle, Harper's and In style and on the red carpet. Bibhu's hard work and talent added significantly to the company's rapid growth.

Bibhu resigned from his position in September of 2007 in order to focus full time on his dream of establishing an exclusive label under his name.

Bibhu tells us, "I am planning to present a small but very refined luxury ready to wear collection for Spring 2009 in New York to a select small group of buyers and private clients during the shows in September."
