Women Choosing Silicone Gel Implants for Their Atlanta Breast Augmentation

Only a year after widespread market introduction, the new generation of silicone gel implants has met with rave reviews from women in Atlanta choosing breast enhancement surgery at Plastic Surgery Center of the South.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) January 30, 2008 -- After analyzing a year's worth of patient statistics, the surgeons at Plastic Surgery Center of the South in Atlanta have found that breast enhancement is undergoing a revolution following the introduction of silicone gel implants. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in November 2006, next generation silicone gel implants have become the most popular implant choice for women considering Atlanta breast augmentation at Plastic Surgery Center of the South, one of the region's most highly-respected cosmetic surgery practices.

"It's remarkable how quickly silicone gel has become the implant of choice at our practice," says Dr. E. Anthony Musarra, one of three board-certified plastic surgeons with Plastic Surgery Center of the South. "Women are doing their homework about the technological and safety advantages built into this new generation of implants, and they're making an informed decision about the implant type that's right for them."

Atlanta breast augmentation patients choose silicone gel implants for many reasons. Some women are impressed by the more natural look and feel of this implant type compared to saline, the only implant type available for most breast augmentation surgeries from 1992 through 2006. "Silicone gel has a consistency more like natural breast tissue, which makes these implants less prone to the rippled appearance some women experience with saline implants," states Dr. James Leake.

"I'm pleased that we are now able to offer women greater choice," continues Dr. Musarra. "Both implant types have their advantages and disadvantages. Along with my colleagues Dr. Leake and Dr. Petrosky, our job as plastic surgeons is to provide each and every patient with a thorough education about the procedure they're considering so that they can make choices they will be happy with in the long term."

While silicone gel implants are an increasingly popular choice for women in Atlanta selecting breast enhancement surgery, some women continue to choose saline implants. Saline implants are the only option for women between the ages of 18 and 22 who are undergoing a non-reconstructive procedure. Saline implants also are a good choice for women particularly concerned about scarring, as these implants can be placed through small incisions and then filled once inside the breast. Other women prefer this implant type over silicone gel because implant rupture is very easy to detect, with the saline liquid being harmlessly absorbed by the body.

"We leave the decision about implant type to each patient," says Dr. Michael Petrosky. "As responsible plastic surgeons looking to build trust and long-term relationships with our patients, we will never talk a woman into breast augmentation before she is ready. Choosing cosmetic surgery is a highly personal decision and we respect and appreciate the sometimes difficult decisions women need to make."

Women choose breast augmentation for many reasons. Most want to enlarge breasts they feel are too small or replace lost volume following pregnancy or significant weight loss. Others need to create greater symmetry when breasts are naturally disproportionate in size or shape or reconstruct breasts disfigured by congenital abnormalities, illness, or trauma. All three board-certified plastic surgeons at Plastic Surgery Center of the South have many years of experience performing breast augmentation and creating naturally-enhanced results.

Plastic Surgery Center of the South (www.plasticsurgerycenterofthesouth.net) is located in Marietta, GA, only minutes away from Atlanta and many of its suburbs. The practice's three board-certified plastic surgeons have over 70 years of combined surgical experience. Most of the cosmetic surgery procedures they offer are performed at the practice's state-of-the-art outpatient surgical facility, which offers the latest safety innovations and modern creature comforts. All of the surgeons also retain staff privileges at nearby Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and Marietta Surgical Center for more extensive cosmetic or reconstructive surgeries.
