When there's a news story on people who start charities, they are usually people who are buried in a tax bracket that the average American could only dream about. You seldom hear stories about working class people who have altruistic motives. This is going to be one of those seldom told tales.
Bob and Nancy Goad are philanthropists in the same sense that Bill and Melinda Gates are. Not to discount the Gates family, but the Goads do not have billions of dollars to start their charity, only heart. "It has been our desire to establish a foundation for children in need in the upstate of South Carolina," explained Nancy Goad.
"We wanted to do something for our community," added Bob Goad. "Nancy is a retired elementary school teacher and I come from a family of teachers."
The Goads established The Goadsters Webshoppe, LLC. in March 2008 as a way to raise money for their foundation. From their namesake banner, the couple launched TeeMeOff, an all-in-one golf webstore and TravelProducts2Go; the proceeds of these sites go back to the community projects that the Goads are setting up.
The couple's two websites coincide with their passions - Bob and his love of golf ("Bob is especially fond of golf, the gentleman's sport," said Nancy) and Nancy's love of travel ("Nancy wanted a website that had travel products that would allow you to get through security with no problems," said Bob).
With their businesses primed and ready, the Goads have an expansion in mind. "We want to expand our foundation to include the entire state of South Carolina and, hopefully, nationwide," said Nancy.
In addition to their webstores, The Goadsters Webshoppe also boasts http://www.TheGoadstersWebshoppeBlog.com , a blog that keeps people informed with golf and travel news, in regards to their respective websites.
Though the Goads have spent an immense amount of time building their one-stop shopping sites, their insistent on the fact that these are really secondary: "The websites are our hobbies," said Bob. "Our job is establishing a foundation for children who are in need."
