New book shares the experiences of Laurie Zagon, founder of Art & Creativity for Healing, Inc., an organization that has touched the lives of more than 20,000 children and adults since 2000.

In late 2000, Laurie Zagon knew that Art & Creativity for Healing would become a reality when an IRS agent offered to fast-track her 501(c)(3) application for Art & Creativity for Healing, so that she could begin applying for grants to support the organization's community "Art for Healing" workshops.

Eight years later, Art & Creativity for Healing is not only a reality - it has risen to become one of Orange County's leading non-profit partner agencies, having worked with more than 35 hospitals, treatment centers and non-profit organizations, and served more than 20,000 children and adults through its "Art for Healing" programs. In 2006, Art & Creativity for Healing launched its Art for Healing Certificate Program in partnership with Chapman University College Extended Education. This is the first program in the nation designed for counselors, teachers, therapists, medical professionals, artists and others interested in learning the "Art for Healing" method.

In her new book, Art for Healing: Painting Your Heart Out (ISBN: 978-1-4343-8219-1, AuthorHouse, U.S. $28.99 - http://www.art4healing.org), Zagon, an artist, author and former professor of art, shares the story of the beginning of the Zagon Method for Art & Creativity for Healing, as "Color & Play" workshops for stressed-out Wall Street executives in the late 1980s. The story continues with Zagon's move to Southern California in the early 1990's where she used the Zagon method while working with patients and their families at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. and Children's Hospital Los Angeles, prior to officially founding Art & Creativity for Healing in 2000.

Readers of Art for Healing: Painting Your Heart Out will be moved by the heartwarming stories shared by five individuals who have experienced the benefits of Art & Creativity for Healing's programs, first hand. Zagon also offers readers valuable insights on the tears and triumphs she experienced as she took Art & Creativity for Healing from a volunteer-based organization to an established non-profit, and provides inspiration to those who are struggling to start an organization of their own.

The book also provides readers with a series of "Art for Healing" exercises that can be conducted on an individual or group basis.

Art for Healing: Painting Your Heart Out is available directly from AuthorHouse (http://www.authorhouse.com), major online booksellers including Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, or through Art & Creativity for Healing.

Zagon regularly addresses community groups regarding her experiences and the work that Art & Creativity for Healing is doing in the community.
