PhoneFusion wins the 2008 Telephony Innovation Award for Most Innovative Mobile Service for its Fusion Voicemail Plus™ offering.

PhoneFusion has been awarded the 2008 Telephony Innovation Award for Most Innovative Mobile Service for its Fusion Voicemail Plus™ offering. PhoneFusion finished in a tie for this award with ChaCha.

Fusion Voicemail Plus™ is a free mobile handset application that provides an innovative user interface to visually display, select and listen to voicemail messages. It integrates voicemail messages from multiple voicemail systems into a central location, displaying text headers containing unique identifiers, including true caller ID names. With a simple tap of a button, users can quickly scroll, select and listen to messages in order of choice. The service runs on top of a broadband data offering from a wireless provider.

"Of all the services on wireless, voicemail is definitely the most archaic," said Kevin Fitchard, senior editor with Telephony and lead wireless reporter. "We're basically using the same analog voicemail boxes from a decade ago. I give kudos to any service that actually moves beyond the voice prompts, which this service definitely appears to do. Unlike other 'visual' voicemail solutions that merely map an interface onto the same old voicemail prompts, this one seems to actually treat each voice message as an individual digital file that can be manipulated across the IP network."

Telephony's Innovation Awards are in their second year of recognizing creative service creation and deployment in the telecom service provider space. The awards are open to all service providers including telecom and cable companies, wireless service providers, managed and hosted service providers, ISPs and applications service providers. The awards are judged by members of Telephony's editorial staff and by guest judges. This year's guest judging panel included Daniel Briere, CEO of TeleChoice, Vince Vittore, program manager with the Yankee Group and Cindy Whelan, analyst with Current Analysis.
