At FreeGreen we hope to encourage progressive building practices by making green home designs free for everyone.
Charlestown, MA (PRWEB) October 3, 2008
For many years the panacea of low-cost, energy-efficient housing was predicted to be Prefabricated (PreFab) Homes. Unfortunately, this market has become dominated by high-cost, high-design modules, never delivering on the potential of mass production and economies of scale. Failures in the PreFab industry have been documented in articles such as Chad Ludeman's recent piece on JetsonGreen. In response to this, FreeGreen has partnered with R-Control SIPs in developing a unique and game-changing alternative for Green-Home consumers.
FreeGreen Inc., provider of free "green" house plans, and R-Control the largest SIP (structural insulated panel) manufacturer and distributor in the United States will join forces and release the first of 10 free SIP based house plans. The first installment of these plans will be called the Rustic Retreat, and is currently available on FreeGreen.com.
David Wax, CEO of FreeGreen Inc., explains; "The combination of our free house plan business model and R-Control's panelized, super energy-efficient product is the perfect solution to low cost, green home building. The plans are free, of the highest quality, and easily customizable. R-Control's high performance SIPs are integrated into the designs and the consumer has the flexibility and choice to work with labor to build their home."
Greg Werner, Director of Development for Montana-based Big Sky R-Control comments; "Our Company and the other U.S.-based R-Control manufacturers are very excited about our partnership with FreeGreen and the opportunity afforded to customers to build and own a Green-Home. We want to show everyone in North America that building a site-built Green-Home can be an easy and affordable option; and it starts with affordable design. The mid-range home in our country needs to be the Green-Home. The structural envelope is where the greatest impact on energy savings and true energy independence in housing will be made. Without this fundamental change in approach our efforts to curb energy waste will fail."
FreeGreen and R-Control expect to release new SIP based house plans bi-monthly from 2008 to 2010. Each of these house plans will be designed to meet different market, geographic, and demographic needs. The inaugural free house plan (the Rustic Retreat) is designed to fit well into the aesthetic and environmental requirements of the Pacific Northwest. All of these plans will be delivered via the FreeGreen website and will meet FreeGreen standards.
