The Golden Gate Council of Hostelling International USA celebrates 50 years of welcoming the world to Northern California, with a 50th Anniversary Luncheon Celebration on October 26 in San Francisco. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with an optional pre-luncheon hike along Ocean Beach, and continues at noon at the United Irish Cultural Center (2700 45th Ave., San Francisco, CA 94116) with a social hour, luncheon, live presentation, and silent auction.

The event also marks the unveiling of a special 50th anniversary commemorative publication, which details the history of the Golden Gate Council and of the hostelling movement in Northern California. The publication also includes 20 short stories about hostelling, selected from more than 100 entries in the Council-sponsored "Adventures in Hostelling" writing contest.
