FireFly Farms (http://www.fireflyfarms.com), producer of artisanal goat cheeses from Maryland's Allegheny Plateau, proudly announced that three of its aged goat cheeses received medals at the World Cheese Awards held September 29th in Dublin, Ireland. Over 90 experts were flown into Dublin from around the world to join 50 Irish judges. These experts tasted and judged an incredible 2,400 cheeses from almost every cheese-making nation apart from South America. Sponsored by the UK Cheese Guild and The Guild of Fine Food Retailers (http://www.finefoodworld.com), the World Cheese Awards is widely acknowledged as the only awards to have achieved global recognition, attracting more entries from mainland Europe, Australia, South Africa and the USA than any similar event, either in the UK or around the world.

FireFly's aged goat cheese, Cabra LaMancha, received a Gold Medal competing in a class against other rind washed cheeses made from various milk types.

FireFly's aged goat cheese, Merry Goat Round, received a Silver Medal competing in a class against other soft goat's milk mold-ripened cheeses.

FireFly's aged goat blue cheese, MountainTop Bleu, received at Bronze Medal competing in a class against other blue-veined cheeses of any milk variety made outside the UK, un-cut, with natural rinds.

"We are ecstatic!" said FireFly's head cheese maker, Matt Cedro. "This is a great honor for us, and we are humbled to have our cheeses recognized on the world stage. We are very proud of our line -- and to receive this type of recognition is wonderful. The World Cheese Awards is the the olympics of cheese -- to receive a medal is amazing, and to earn gold is indescribable. " Assistant cheese maker, Dan Porter, echoed Cedro's excitement, "To medal against creameries who have made cheese for generations is thrilling!"

About FireFlyFarms:
Established in 2000, FireFlyFarms is dedicated to the art of cheese making. FireFly Farm's artisanal goat cheeses are made according to time-honored tradition -- they are produced and ripened with handmade care. Our aged cheeses are ripened naturally in a specially constructed aging room -- we shun short cuts and artificial techniques aimed at increasing yield or shelf life at the expense of quality. At FireFly, we believe in the interdependence of people with one another and with our environment, and we are committed to caring for the land and protecting biodiversity for today's communities and future generations.
