Universal Coin & Bullion weathered a day-long hammering from Hurricane Ike on September 12, 2008 and into the afternoon of the following day. Today company officials announced that the impact of Hurricane Ike resulted in very minor damage to the its facility located in Beaumont, Texas. Universal Coin & Bullion suspended all operations at its Beaumont office late Thursday evening, September 11, 2008 in compliance with Jefferson county’s evacuation order.
Universal Coin & Bullion’s office incurred some damage from the hurricane. Their administration office suffered roof damage resulting in water ruining office furniture and carpets. Some computer equipment was also damaged. In response to this problem Universal Coin & Bullion quickly created a temporary administration office. All business activities have since returned to normal, including all shipments and support of Universal Coin & Bullion clients. The Company does not expect any material impact on its business as a result of the circumstances brought about by Hurricane Ike.
"Let me emphasize that our company is committed to the safety of our employees, their families, and to our customers," said Mike Fuljenz, Universal Coin & Bullion President. "Additionally, we are committed to doing whatever it takes to meet their needs. We still have a lot of work in front of us that will take weeks to complete but we have begun taking steps to prioritize both as we begin processing orders already placed, taking orders via our order center and focusing on the fastest means to full operations," continued Fuljenz. Hurricane Ike pounded Southeast Texas beginning late Friday Sep 12, 2008 and throughout most of the following day. By the time the storm passed through Entergy Texas' service area, 99 percent of its 395,000 customers were without power. Some say damage from Ike was more severe than experienced from Hurricane Rita, which struck in September 2005.
