It's amazing how so many positive situations are finding me at this point in our current economy. Multiple licensing opportunities are coming to fruition and I am optimistic and excited about 2009

This Fall, lifestyle designer Barclay Butera feels people gravitating toward nesting. With the current state of the world and economy, we all need our own haven, especially to make it feel like a resort getaway…soothing and fresh. To that end, Barclay Butera Home launches the Hamptons Collection at High Point International Market (Oct. 20-26), at Interhall #IH408. The color palette of this fabric collection ties into two of five categories reflected in Butera's new Assouline-published book Living In Style - Beach and Town & Country. Additionally, Butera will showcase pieces from his new association with the Hearst Castle Collection®, reflected in upholstery and pillows. Barclay is also involved with Ultrasuede® at this High Point; and will also be presenting the key award at the Pinnacle Awards on Monday during High Point Market.
Hamptons Collection - The textiles' subtle color palette of pale greens and blues transports his furnishings and accessories such as pillows into another environment, either Beach or Town & Country style. To Butera, the Beach concept reflects small cottages as well as grand homes with great architecture that embrace nature's elements. Town & Country is inspired by the sophistication of the South, looking to the grand older cities of Savannah, Charleston and Atlanta. The designer envisions these colors - which reflect the core of his approach - and their patterns as helping create a beautiful haven from today's many ups and downs. He used elements of this palette recently in renovating the historic L'Auberge Del Mar Hotel, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar, CA.
Barclay Butera Home for Hearst Castle Collection® -
Much of what the Hamptons is today is a lifestyle born at San Simeon aka Hearst Castle, where a new and unique mix of society's most elite were invited to arrive by plane, train and chauffeured car; to visit and stay in lavishly decorated guest houses and suites; to sun and swim in the two spectacular pools; and to enjoy dinner parties, trail rides, movie screenings and the fabulous views of the coast. Hearst Castle was the quintessential country beach home embodying the paradigm of an indoor/outdoor lifestyle so desired today. So, it's no wonder that Butera and the Hearst Castle Collection® have created an alliance in upholstered elements.
(a) The Regency Chair is created as a gentleman's chair, but the upholstery of navy linen with a nickel nailhead detailing makes it work for a feminine atmosphere as well. This overscaled, winged club chair with a large scooped back, features Barclay Butera's signature details -- tufting, rolled arm, exposed bun feet or kick pleat flounce available (shown with exposed bun feet). It is easy to imagine this chair among the classic, comfortable pieces at Hearst Castle, it is shown here in Marine Belgium Linen (#29-02S). (41"w x 40"d x 36"h)
(b) The "Casa del Monte Pillow Series" designs are based on original drawings by San Simeon architect Julia Morgan for hand carved ceiling panels in the bedrooms of Hearst's smallest guest house at 2,291 sq. ft. Reproductions were made from the original drawings by Julia Morgan and hand water-colored in a palette reflective of the San Simeon coast view from the castle's famed Neptune Pool and specially matched to Butera's Spring '09 collection.
Ultrasuede / Barclay Butera Blue - The opening vignette at the Ultrasuede® Gallery at the Suites at Market Square, Space SMS I-446, highlights Barclay Butera. Several of his upholstery pieces will be clad in Ultrasuede® Butera Blue. His signature shade for the line - also a subtle blue - was introduced at the summer Showtime Fabric Fair as one of four Designer's Choice colors and is shown for the first time on upholstery at the October High Point Market.
Barclay Butera will also be presenting on Monday evening at High Point the Major Collections Award at the Pinnacle Design Awards, the pre-eminent design achievement awards for the Home Furnishings Industry, with 15 categories ranging from Accessories to Major Collections.
"It's amazing how so many positive situations are finding me at this point in our current economy. Multiple licensing opportunities are coming to fruition and I am optimistic and excited about 2009," states Barclay Butera, President and CEO, Barclay Butera Inc. "The Hearst Castle Collection alliance has added something different for me to explore with interiors, as I create a line for them from the ground up. It enhances my business, and their confidence in me is a huge compliment."
