Chihuahua On the Rise: Meet Billie Valentine, Chihuahua Extraordinaire

Share Article

Billie Valentine, Chihuahua extraordinaire, is a unique 2009 dog calendar featuring Billie Valentine, a unique Chihuahua with a flair for posing. Billie takes on a different personality each month (ranging from a pastry chef to a sunflower to a gym buff), making this calendar mostly humourous but definitely cute. The mission of the Billie Valentine calendar is to bring a smile to the face of its recipient for 13 months straight (the calendar has a bonus December 2008 page).

A recently discovered California local is making buzz with his print modeling career. A rising star and up-and-coming celebrity in the making, Billie Valentine has recently released his new 2009 calendar just in time for the holidays. However, you won't see this celebrity leaving trendy restaurants or having his face splashed throughout gossip magazines anytime soon. That is because Billie Valentine has four legs and is a rescued tan and black Chihuahua dog.

With his apple-dome skull, 45 degree big ears and huge luminous eyes, Billie Valentine(like many Chihuahuas) can wear a remarkable human and even saucy expression. In his calendar, Billie takes on different personalities, carefully put in mis-en-scenes by owner Debbie Hendrickx.

"What makes this little guy so extraordinary is that he has a natural flair for posing. He doesn't mind putting on wigs and costumes and he truly acts out his scenes. Whether he is a haute couture fashion model with superstar attitude or a French pastry chef who prefers to not be bothered in the kitchen, Billie somehow gets in the spirit of his characters," says Hendrickx, a Belgian born Escondido resident and amateur photographer.

Hendrickx began making Billie Valentine calendars in 2006 for friends and family and because of an overwhelming demand decided to offer them to the public.

"This calendar makes a great gift for teachers, co-workers, grandparents, teenagers, and of course dog lovers alike. Even football fans might enjoy the September scene," hints the excited owner. Like any owner/agent, Hendrickx is proud of Billie's first modeling project. "It really has a broad audience. It makes a great 'how did they do that?' conversation piece."

America started taking notice of the Chihuahua breed when the most famous Chihuahua of all uttered that well-known one-liner, "Yo quiero Taco Bell." Since then, Chihuahuas, or Chi's, as referred to by most Chihuahua owners, have been spotted with many A-list celebrities and captivated the hearts of dog lovers across the country. The Chihuahua breed will also be the featured star in the upcoming Disney movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" released this October.

Billie Valentine, Chihuahua Extraordinaire, 2009 calendar is available on-line at For each calendar sold, one dollar will go to the San Diego Chihuahua Rescue organization.
