ACCION USA Joins Forces with the Bilingual Parent Outreach Program to Teach "Build Your Credit" Seminars in Miami

Thousands of Immigrant Parents and Families to Receive Practical Credit Building Skills from National Microfinance Nonprofit

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 14, 2008 -- ACCION USA, a pioneer and leader in domestic microfinance, in partnership with the Bilingual Parent Outreach Program, a Division of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, today announced a partnership to disseminate the "Build Your Credit" seminar curriculum -- designed to educate immigrants in the Miami metro area about the importance of building credit in the United States, and practical tips and tools to start doing so. Credit building tips will pertain to personal as well as business credit.

Without a credit history, immigrants face a multitude of challenges with everyday transactions and often fall victim to predatory lending practices. A 2007 research study conducted by Encuesta, Inc and ACCION USA confirmed a deficiency in financial literacy among immigrants, especially with respect to personal credit. In this nationwide study, only 37% of foreign-born Hispanics reported to have reviewed their credit report and 27% reported to know their credit score.

To address this issue, ACCION USA will hold credit education seminars through its partnership with the Bilingual Parent Outreach Program during the month of October. Seminars will be conducted in Spanish and Creole, and should reach close to 5,000 participants.

"We are excited to partner with the Bilingual Outreach Program to educate immigrants and their families about the responsible use of credit," said Gina Harman, CEO of ACCION USA. "Learning to build and sustain good credit is a crucial step towards achieving financial independence and security."
