Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization Scholarship Program Honors Dr. Clemmie Whatley with Named Giving Level

Founder of Educational Dynamix is Recognized for her Leadership as One of First Two Black Women Graduates

Educational Dynamix, an educational services firm that focuses on the learning and development of educators and children through innovative and engaging programs and services, announced today that Dr. Clemmie Whatley has been honored by the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization (GTBAO), an affinity group of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.

The GTBAO has established an endowment scholarship where donors to the Onyx Society giving levels will be recognized as follows:

  • GTBAO Endowment Circle from $25,000
  • 1961 Triumvirate Circle ($15,999 to $24,999)
  • Ronald Yancey Circle ( $7,500 to $14,999)
  • Clemmie Whatley Circle ( $3,000 to $7,499)
  • Trailblazers Circle ($1,500 to $2,999)
  • Young Alumni Circle ($300 to $1499) graduated within last 10 years

Dr. Whatley was one of the first two black women to graduate from Georgia Tech in 1973. Since then 5600 black men and women have graduated. Currently blacks represent 7 percent of the total enrollment of Georgia Tech.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Georgia Tech's integration, GTBAO has chosen to establish a permanent endowment to provide private scholarship support to facilitate the recruitment of talented black freshmen and the retention of black upper classmen. One of the scholarships made available will be named for Dr. Whatley.

The GTBAO Scholarships Initiative is a visionary initiative within Campaign Georgia Tech, the Institute's billion-dollar campaign that concludes at the end of 2010.
