Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 16, 2008
Fractalspin, the internet's premier geek boutique and plugged-in lifestyle store, has launched "Virtual Trick-or-Treating" with its Halloween promotion rewarding customers with free Nerds candy when they post photos to the site's blog of themselves wearing last year's Halloween costume.
Virtual trick-or-treaters add free Nerds to their shopping cart and check out like regular customers, except they spend nothing. Users also post an photo of their costume that gets uploaded on Fractalspin's site shortly thereafter, allowing them to share their creativity with Fractalspin's audience who is looking for inspiration for this year's costume by viewing a targeted community's previous work. A few short days later, Nerds arrive in their real-world mailbox, completing the virtual trick-or-treat transaction.
When asked about the inspiration for the promotion, Fractalspin's creative director, Liz McLean Knight, said, "I thought it would be fun to have cool, creative people, show up at my door on Halloween in hilarious costumes so I could hand them candy in return. Then when I gave it more thought I realized I could do it virtually through Fractalspin and achieve the same result."
Knight also uploaded a photo of herself in last year's costume as a sexy version of a LOLcat--an internet meme that features humorous photographs of cats with shaky grasps on English narrating the photo they appear in via overlaid text--to encourage others to contribute photos of their own.
Although the Nerds candy physical giveaway is limited to US addresses, people from all corners of the world with internet access are welcome to submit photos of themselves in Halloween costumes as long as it adheres to the site's decency requirements.
The promotion will run until October 31st, 2008 or until Fractalspin runs out of Nerds (candy).
