Green Bay, WI (PRWEB) October 17, 2008
Normally host to numerous golf tournaments throughout the year, the Fox Hills Resort in Mishicot will this year feature a competition of a different kind: the "Great Pumpkin Classic Foosball Championships." To be held October 24-26, the annual table soccer (a.k.a. "foosball") tournament is expected to draw well over 100 "foos" enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
Now recognized as an International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) Pro Tour Series event, the tournament has even been elevated to international tour status. This means that players at the Master levels will play not only for prizes at the event, but also for qualifying points to compete at the ITSF World Championship Finals in Nantes, France this coming January. As a result, "foosers" from throughout the USA and Canada, and even a number of European players are expected to compete.
Competition could easily draw match ups between top American players such as local favorite and USA #1-ranked Tony Spredeman of Cudahy, WI, against fellow U.S. Team members Dave Gummeson, of Coon Rapids, MN, and Terry Moore of Schaumburg, IL, among others. Women's competition is likely to include some of the best in the world as well, including past World Champion Stayce Fowler of Cedar Rapids, IA and U.S. National Champion Melissa Kegg of Cincinnati, OH. And, with many top Masters playing exceptionally strong after a fiercely competitive 2008 World Pro Tour, matches are anticipated to be extremely intense!
This year's tournament takes place on Brunswick's Tornado Table Soccer™ tables, one of five different styles of table soccer tables currently endorsed by the ITSF for use in international competition. With skill categories from to beginner through Master, events include doubles, singles, mixed doubles and specialty events such as "Super Draw" and 40 & Over Doubles. The tournament will also feature a special "Super Doubles" single elimination playoff event among the winners of each doubles skill category.
The tournament area is open to all press and spectators and there is no admission fee to view the matches. For participants, registration begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24th, and most finals will be played Sunday the 26th. Sponsors include the Miller Lite, Fox Hills Resort and XtremeSportz Promotions. Host hotel for the event is the Foxhills Resort, 250 W. Church St, Mishicot, WI (reservations: 1-800-950-7615).
This competition is in fact the final stop on the 55-tournament 2008 ITSF World Pro Tour prior to the combined ITSF World Championship Finals and World Cup of Table Soccer this coming January in Nantes, France. As players worldwide prepare for these spectacular events, foosball players across the USA and all around the world are already further training for ITSF's five-continent 2009 World Tour (with competition scheduled for Austria, China, Germany, Japan, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and more!)
