Continuent Tungsten For MySQL Available For Closed Beta Testing.

With MySQL being widely deployed for web-tier applications, a consistent message from our mutual customers has been the need for better master-slave replication than current solutions. Scalability and reliability with seamless failover and no performance loss are absolutely crucial for them. Tungsten delivers this

Continuent, Inc., a leading provider of commercial open source solutions for database replication and scale-out, today announced that it is accepting applications for a closed beta version for advanced replication for MySQL® with its Tungsten Replicator. Continuent Tungsten™ is an open source stack consisting of tightly integrated projects that provide database scale-out using commodity hardware. It provides database replication, group communications wrappers, performance testing tools and shared infrastructure required to build workable scale-out solutions. Tungsten also includes sophisticated cluster management based on group communications. Continuent's Tungsten stack works with any database implementation, and is available in source and binary forms.

The Continuent Tungsten for MySQL is designed to

  •     Solve problems that go well beyond the capabilities of existing open source replication such as built-in MySQL replication: proper handling of master failover in presence of multiple slaves for high availability, master/slave replication of one, some, or all databases, MySQL statement and row-level replication, checksums on replication events, and table consistency check mechanism.
  •     Provide heterogeneous replication: supply edge application data from core Oracle® OLTP server by heterogeneous replication from an Oracle instance to and from MySQL with high fidelity and rapid transfer rates.
  •     Implement reliable, zero-downtime MySQL database migration and upgrade, such as online replication from MySQL 4.x and 5.0 to 5.1, by applying upgrades to a replica instance and then promoting the upgraded copy to be a master. In addition to minimizing downtime, this approach provides a back-out in the event of migration problems.

"With MySQL being widely deployed for web-tier applications, a consistent message from our mutual customers has been the need for better master-slave replication than current solutions. Scalability and reliability with seamless failover and no performance loss are absolutely crucial for them. Tungsten delivers this," says Robert Hodges, CTO at Continuent. "We encourage interested MySQL customers to contact us and apply to test it."

A limited beta release of Continuent Tungsten is available by contacting sales @ continuent.com. Production versions will be available in Q1 2009.
