Global Traveler Crowns the '1K Global Traveler of the Year' For the Fourth Consecutive Year, Global Traveler Holds Popular Contest

Global Traveler magazine, the only U.S.-based magazine dedicated to the business and luxury traveler, teamed up with United Airlines 1K program to find the "Global Traveler of the Year".

Yardley, Pa. (PRWEB) October 18, 2008 -- Global Traveler and United Airlines have once again led the search to find the "1K Global Traveler of the Year." This year's essay contest asked United 1K members to offer up their stories of how an overseas culture has changed their life. Thousands of essays poured in and Jerrold Sameth of Clifton, N.J. submitted the winning essay. Sameth recounted the ways in which travel has made him a better person.

The contest, which ran from July 1 through Sept. 30, was open exclusively to United 1K members. To become a 1K member, you must acquire 100,000 Elite Qualifying Miles from United Mileage Plus in a calendar year. United Vacations, Hertz and Starwood Hotels & Resorts were also sponsors of the contest. Applicable participants logged on to www.globaltraveleroftheyear.com and submitted their essays online. Global Traveler staff chose the winning essay.

Jerrold Sameth will receive a luxury vacation for two to Hawaii! This year's grand prize was a seven-night stay at the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas, first-class round-trip air transportation on United Airlines and an eight-day car rental from Hertz. In addition, the winner will be honored at Global Traveler's annual GTTested Awards luncheon in January and presented with an award. The winning essay will be featured in the March 2009 issue of the magazine.
