FleetBroadband to address needs of the maritime industry in the region

Inmarsat, the leading provider of mobile satellite communications services, and SingTel, Asia's leading communication group with operations and investments in 19 countries and territories around the world, today announced the commercial introduction of FleetBroadband for SingTel's customers in the Asia Pacific region. This was highlighted at Martech 2008, a maritime training communication and technology event held in Singapore on October 13-14, in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week.

Inmarsat FleetBroadband is the latest addition to SingTel's suite of Infocomm Technology (ICT) solutions for the maritime industry.

With broadband speeds of up to 432kbps, a voice service at landline quality, and a simultaneous voice and data capability that supports multiple calls and data connections, the FleetBroadband solution is fast becoming the communications service of choice for merchant, government, fishing and leisure vessels. The market up-take for the FleetBroadband service has been stronger than expected, attesting to the solution's increasing reliability and reputation among the world's largest players in the maritime industry

To date, there are over 1,000 activated FleetBroadband terminals in the market globally.

Perry Melton, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Inmarsat, commented, "SingTel has been an Inmarsat partner since our days as an intergovernmental organization, and it has always been an important distributor for us in the Asia Pacific region. The maritime industry here is growing and it's critical for businesses to improve productivity in order to stay ahead of competition. Constant connectivity onboard is more important now than ever before."

"Launching FleetBroadband with SingTel comes at an opportune time as the recent launch of the third Inmarsat-4 satellite allows us to complete the global coverage for our broadband services, with enhanced coverage for services in the region," Perry added.

Titus Yong, Vice President, Satellite, SingTel, said, "FleetBroadband is a high capacity, pay-as-you-use broadband solution that enables maritime customers to communicate wherever they are. It is an excellent platform for SingTel's Office-At-Sea suite of ICT solutions, which allows the ship to become a seamless extension of the shore-based office with applications such as email, Internet and Intranet access and voice communications. These solutions give shipping companies a productivity boost and improve crew welfare."
