Bee Authentic Organic Clothing Co. is pleased to announce it has been selected as the T-shirt provider for the National Student/Parent Mock Election (NS/PME), a voter-education program designed to engage students and encourage voting when they are of age.
The NSPME is the nation's oldest, largest and most successful voter-education project, dating from 1980. Since the first Mock Election in 1980, nearly 50 million young voters have cast their ballots and, in the process, discovered what it means to be an American citizen and the value of citizenship in our democracy.
"In the classrooms of today are our future Presidents, members of Congress, governors and judges - but most importantly, these young people are the voters of tomorrow," said NSPME President Gloria Kirshner. "Whether we are sending these children to the White House or to the polls, we hope to give them a deep understanding of 'government of the people, by the people, and for the people.' "
Kirshner said that with support from the 2008 campaign partners and collaborators - Google, the National Association of Broadcasters' Education Foundation, the educational publisher Pearson, USA TODAY, Declare Yourself, Strong American Schools, and School Perceptions - this year's Mock Election campaign is significantly expanding its offerings of educational materials for America's classrooms.
The National Student/Parent Mock Election receives support from numerous organizations, including the National PTA, the National School Boards Association, the National Council for the Social Studies, the Council of the Great City Schools, the American Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Secretaries of State. The collective contributions of all supporters help NSPME create a richer and more meaningful experience for students, parents and teachers.
Google is providing a special YouTube site (see http://www.youtube.com/mockelection) where Mock Election schools may share what they are doing with each other and with the broadcasters working with the 2008 Mock Election. Schools wishing to post their activities should contact the Mock Election for log in and password information.
The Mock Election had 4 million participants in the last presidential election year, 2004, with hopes for that many or more this year, its 28th in existence. The Mock Election is held on Oct. 30, five days before the general election. "National Election Headquarters" will be at the national headquarters of USA Today in McLean, VA where votes will come in from all 50 states and American schools all across the world, from Okinawa and the Marshall Islands to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to Dakar and Bavaria.
