Landscape Architects and Contractors in Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana and Southeast Wisconsin Have a New Source for Millenia® Retaining Walls.

Landscape architects and contractors are looking for a new alternative that is more natural in appearance than conventional SRW materials, and there is a growing interest in earth-friendly products for green building

Millenia Wall Solutions, developer of the Millenia® Retaining Wall System, announced that Service Konstruction Supply, Inc. has agreed to distribute its products. After years of development, field testing and refinement, Millenia's next-generation segmental retaining wall (SRW) system is becoming the new industry standard. Service Konstruction Supply, Inc. (Hampshire, Ill.) is a hardscape supply center that specializes in SRW products.

"Landscape architects and contractors are looking for a new alternative that is more natural in appearance than conventional SRW materials, and there is a growing interest in earth-friendly products for green building," said Steven M. Link, president, Service Konstruction Supply, Inc. "Millenia Wall Solutions is right there on the leading edge of the industry. Their retaining wall system offers more refined aesthetics and a lower environmental impact than concrete blocks."

Millenia® Retaining Walls, the first significant breakthrough in the design and construction of retaining walls since the 1980s, offer significant advantages over traditional wall materials:

EIGHT LEED CREDIT POINTS: Millenia uses 100 percent recycled, pre-consumer polymeric resin materials to manufacture its products. An independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) verified that Millenia® polymer wall units provide a 55 percent reduction in total environmental impact (including a 65 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions) when used instead of concrete SRW blocks.

NEW, MORE NATURAL LOOK: Millenia's unique imaging technology enables the company to take exact impressions of stone faces from rock formations and quarried stone from which it fabricates the molds used to produce its retaining wall faces and caps. "When we inject the polymeric material into the molds, it flows and fills completely to express all the fine details and subtle variations of real stone," said Robert Race, P.E., vice president, Millenia Wall Solutions. "Special paint and additives impart the look and texture of natural stone."

EASY INSTALLATION: Each Millenia SC100™]unit weighs only five pounds. Installing 600 square feet per day translates to only 125 pounds per man per hour versus 1,200 pounds per hour for concrete blocks or boulders - well within OSHA lifting guidelines. Yet when placed, a Millenia® wall has all the weight and stability of any other SRW.

GREATER DURABILITY: The recycled polymers used in Millenia® wall units do not absorb water or chemicals. The elements will not cause a Millenia® wall to degrade, effloresce or lose strength.

"Steve Link and I have known each other for 18 years. He understands the SRW business, knows his customers, and is committed to offering only the highest-quality hardscape products," said Paul Forsberg, president, Millenia Wall Solutions. "Steve's decision to distribute our wall products is a real vote of confidence in Millenia."

"Millenia retaining walls are developed and supported by the same experts, Paul Forsberg and Robert Race, who established the SRW industry back in the late 1980s and then grew the market internationally," said Link. "They are two of the most well-known, highly regarded people in the business."

In the late 1980s, Paul Forsberg started the SRW industry to establish a better alternative to boulder and timber walls for landscape applications. Robert Race, PE helped develop the technology that made geogrid reinforcement an industry standard. They have teamed up again at Millenia Wall Solutions to lead the new revolution in retaining wall materials and construction methods.
