Michael Delavar released the following statement in response to the Columbian's 10-15-08 "In our View" article:

"While no-one believes that the local print media is unbiased, the Columbian's recent endorsement of Brian Baird demonstrated a complete lack of objectivity. It is possible to endorse a candidate without spreading untruths about his opponent. I take strong issue with several claims that they made.

"First, the claim that our campaign 'can't even get a cup of coffee' at the local Republican Party offices is completely at odds with reality. We have been included in numerous events throughout the county. In fact, Clark County GOP chairman Ryan Hart was approached by a reporter recently regarding this issue. Ryan pointed out that we've been widely included and that the GOP allows me to speak at their functions. But Ryan's comments were not used in the article. The local GOP continues to have a good working relationship with my campaign, and I have been endorsed by several local Precinct Committee Officers and other GOP Candidates.

"Furthermore, the editors claimed that I was a supporter of Ron Paul, thus using his base to propel me past the primary. Dr. Paul received 2,488 votes in Clark County's February primary. I received 15,926 votes in Clark County alone.

"Contrary to the article's claims, Brian Baird was not the only Democrat in the race. Cheryl Crist was also challenging Mr. Baird, making it two Democrats and two Republicans.

"Most significantly, since the voters themselves have decided to endorse my candidacy and send me to the general election, I am honored to have their endorsement. I ask them for one more vote of confidence on November 4th. With change being the current buzzword, I agree we do need a change of leadership in Congress. Together we can achieve change in Congress, but only by voting out the incumbents."

Michael Delavar is the Republican candidate for Congress in Washington State's Third Congressional District. His website is http://www.delavarforcongress.com.
