Greenplum customers are gaining competitive advantage from the massive-scale analytics and insight they get using Greenplum Database. We intend to provide our full support to bring this same success to enterprises in Japan.
Tokyo, Japan and San Mateo, California (PRWEB) October 20, 2008
Tokyo Electron Device Limited (TED) and Greenplum, a leading provider of database software for the next generation of data warehousing and analytics, today announced that the companies have entered into an exclusive distributorship agreement. Starting today, TED will begin sales of the Greenplum Database, Greenplum's massively parallel processing (MPP) database product.
Greenplum Database is an open source-based database engine used in data warehousing. By enhancing the engine's PostgreSQL base with a shared-nothing architecture, Greenplum has enabled the interconnection of multiple PostgreSQL database instances. The system is operable as a single logical database. Parallel query and parallel data loading functions applied to that database support the various capabilities that create large-scale data warehouses.
Greenplum Database also implements MapReduce, a proven distributed processing architecture used for giant Internet portals. The enabling of parallel execution for both queries and programs reduces the time required for development. As a result, high-speed analysis of massive amounts of unstructured data obtained via various applications, such as keyword analysis and content indexing, can be done with a smaller investment.
Greenplum Database Features:
o Partitions a single database into a number of segments for distribution to dedicated disks on multiple servers;
o The task of processing segments located on dedicated disks is divided among the servers in order to distribute the workload, thus achieving scalability.
Parallel data loading
o Enables parallel loading of data using an optimal method for each segment.
Parallel query execution
o All database tasks, including table scans, coupling, aggregation and sorting, can be executed simultaneously, in parallel, on entire segments.
MapReduce massively parallel processing technology
o Enables the processing and analysis of massive volumes of unstructured data obtained through applications such as keyword analysis and content indexing;
o Enables analysis of data sets stored off the Greenplum Database.
TED will apply database sales and support know-how accumulated over the years into the Greenplum Database business. It is expected that 400 million yen in revenue will be obtained from license sales in fiscal 2008, through promotions conducted across Japan in tandem with sales partners.
"Tokyo Electron Device is a company that has enjoyed considerable success in launching cutting-edge products into the Japanese market and I expect this to be a fruitful partnership," said Bill Cook, CEO of Greenplum. "Greenplum customers are gaining competitive advantage from the massive-scale analytics and insight they get using Greenplum Database. We intend to provide our full support to bring this same success to enterprises in Japan."
