The case study entitled "The e-ICU: A Model for the Future" will take place Monday, October 27th at 4:00 p.m. and be presented by Jennifer Ball, RN, BSN, MBA eICU Operations Director & Director, Nursing Informatics, Saint Luke's Health System

The e-ICU at Saint Luke's Health System supports patient safety and transforms care by being another layer of eyes and ears watching out for patients, standardizing critical care, and extending specialty care to rural areas. Bedside staff has immediate access to critical care experts at the push of a button and uses a national, critical-care database to research disease or conditions. It also extends knowledgeable staff to a larger, underserved area and is a recruiting tool for rural facilities/communities. The results are decreased length of stay and improved mortality rates, and Saint Luke's is in the top 5 e-ICU sites in the nation for performance and improvement in patient outcomes. The e-ICU is an example of how technology enhances patient care and actually demonstrates that implementing technology can have an effect on patient outcomes and overall healthcare.

"The eICU adds a layer of protection to patients who need it most, by lending our eyes, ears and expertise to the nurses at the bedside. This technology has helped us reduce mortality, length of stay, and the number of code blues in our ICUs. We are making a difference in patient's lives and offering a specialized resource to the bedside staff," commented Jennifer Ball.
