melslife.com, a multi-media, advertiser-supported, healthy living social network, which targets echo boomers, was launched by Los Angeles-based Richmel Productions. “I’m thrilled to be part of this new media venture, and I want to congratulate everyone on the melslife team worldwide,” commented Richmel CEO Rich Melcombe.

melslife has many of the functionalities of social network leaders facebook and myspace, but its emphasis is on food, health and life philosophy. melslife is for people who want to live healthier lifestyles. “This site targets my generation. With so many people focusing on their health and the environment, melslife comes at the perfect time. I am excited to be a part of something that I am so passionate about and cannot wait to share this healthy information,” according to melslife’s 24-year-old founder Melissa “mel” Melcombe.

While melslife is not a medical site, it does feature in-depth coverage of six medical issues, written from a holistic point-of-view. These sections include Cholesterol, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Blood Pressure, Cancer, and the Immune System. Because of the growing number of people with gluten sensitivity, melslife has also included a melsSnapshot on Celiac Disease. melslife does not rely on doctors’ or medical experts’ advice; rather, melslife relies on mel’s opinions and the comments and advice of its demo-influenced community.

If you want to know about what foods to eat, chocolate to buy, juices to drink, types of coffee to order, teas to enjoy, alternative foods to find, vitamins, minerals, and supplements to take, then melslife is your one-stop information site. melslife has over 400 pages of unique, original content. “I believe that life is all about balance. Indulging once in a while is part of living a healthy lifestyle and enjoying a happy life,” says mel.

melslife has its own digital life coach. Users can create a set of goals they want to achieve: so-called “baby steps.” If a person is interested in spiritual happiness, melslife has many pages dedicated to different life philosophies.

melslife has a “myLife” section, where personal pages can be created and customized to reflect that user’s life, philosophy, and passions, surrounded by photos of their family, friends, and favorite foods.

Businesses promoting healthy living and food products, including restaurants, farmers, health-focused organizations and associations, can also create their own pages -- called myBusiness pages – complete with photos, announcements, research, information, recipes, and advertising, for free.

Like community members in myLife and myBusiness, charities can create and customize their own pages – called myCharity pages -- with photos, mission and philosophy statements, help solicitations, requests for contributions – and can post events in melslife’s Social Activism section.

Consumer advocates and consumer groups can identify their issues, post their research, issue consumer alerts, and solicit help for their causes on melsAdvocates page. “It’s important for people to have an outlet where they can share their views, research, and opinions with people who are interested and willing to listen,” says mel.

melslife features pets too. Each page contains a community pet area called myPet, which users can customize by selecting from a variety of pet photos, or they can add their own pet photo.

Free Flowers? Want to feel like you are making a green difference? Users can select one of the hundreds of photos and send them, along with a special message, to loved ones.

melslife has a large video section with specific channels for Coffee, Tea, & Cocktails, Cooking, Exercise & Fitness, Health & Medical, Inspirational & Charities, Pets,
Reviews & Product Comparisons, Tips, and Smashed videos. Another melslife channel is “The Ask mel Show” channel. The Ask mel Show is a melslife original, a Web-based show that allows users to send “mel” a question on video, and “mel” will answer the question, creating a truly interactive show.

As part of melslife’s launch celebration, melslife is offering (to US residents only) two free, roundtrip tickets anywhere in the world, in the “Win 2 Tickets & Go Anywhere” sweepstakes, for the user who posts the most content by the end of January 2009.
