After introducing 18 Trivia questions about presidential nominees John McCain and Barack Obama, TriviaWorld.com discovered that many Americans are not familiar with basic facts about the candidates. The questions were placed randomly in games and were answered by 4,579 US residents between September 1st and October 20th. The full answer statistics can be found here.
Most evident is the ignorance surrounding McCain's plan for Iraq and Obama's tax plans. Only 31% knew of McCain's plans to remove most US troops from Iraq by 2013 while 40% believed he plans to accomplish it by 2010. Obama on the other hand somehow convinced 41% of the people that he intends to lower taxes overall rather than raise them. On the issue of middle names, it appears the controversy over Obama's middle name has left its mark as 71% knew it is Hussein while only 25% were able to guess McCain's middle name (Sidney). On the topic of books, although both candidates have written a few it appears none made it to the water cooler as 38% believed that McCain has never written a single book while 34% believed that Obama has never authored one.
"We added these questions just to provide some variety and fun for our players but when we viewed the statistics we were very surprised. Most of our users are at least college educated and we have some teachers and professors that play as well. We expected our US based players to perform much better" said Noam Makavy, TriviaWorld.com co-founder.
