Until now, it was impossible to hand address an envelope without paying the price of First-Class postage. But for the first time ever, we've designed a way to mail hand-addressed envelopes at the bulk mail postage rate. That means customers can still get the high response rates of First-Class Mail while saving tens of thousands of dollars on postage.

Think Ink Marketing has pioneered a new, innovative direct mail solution that, for the first time ever, will allow customers to get the look and results of First-Class Mail at the discounted postage rate of bulk mail. Until now, the ability to send handwritten mail with bulk postage was thought to be impossible in the direct mail industry. Think Ink Marketing is the first company to be approved by the U.S. Postal Service to implement this unique solution.
"One of the main reasons direct mail doesn't typically get opened is because it looks like junk mail," says Craig Dickhout, president and founder of Think Ink Marketing. "Unlike traditional mailing houses, we execute direct mail campaigns by hand addressing a plain white envelope, attaching a real live $.42 stamp and using no return address to ensure that our customers' mail looks less like a solicitation and more like a personal letter from a friend."
For over 18 years, Think Ink's customers have seen their direct mail pieces get opened and read by up to 87% of addresses mailed using Think Ink's unique personalized mailing strategies.
"At Think Ink, we're always looking for ways to innovate and save our clients even more money," says Dickhout. "Until now, it was impossible to hand address an envelope without paying the price of First-Class postage. But for the first time ever, we've designed a way to mail hand-addressed envelopes at the bulk mail postage rate. That means customers can still get the high response rates of First-Class Mail while saving tens of thousands of dollars on postage."
Think Ink begins by hand addressing a white envelope, then stamping the envelope with a "live flag" looking stamp (very similar to a $.42 stamp). They cancel the postage, which eliminates the need for a return address, and then bar code the envelope to give customers maximum postage discounts. This results in a highly effective mailing piece with the look of First-Class Mail but the cost of bulk mail postage.
"Another benefit to our new bulk mailing solution is that customers' mail can weigh as much as three ounces without increasing the cost of postage," says Dickhout.
When using a $.42 First-Class stamp, the weight limit is one ounce and anything over that means an increase in postage. But with Think Ink's new solution, customers can add more components to their package or use heavier card stock for the same price (up to three ounces).
"We just utilized Think Ink's new mailing solution for a campaign of 25,000 pieces, and we saved over $15,000 in postage," says Mano Miyata, CEO of MS Consulting. "I was previously paying $1 per piece in postage, and now I'm paying $.39 per piece - saving me 61% on postage costs alone. Plus, I was able to include an extra marketing piece in my mailing because of the increased weigh limit. Best of all, I still achieved the same handwritten First-Class look and the same great mailing results."
According to Dickhout, a client could save as much as $200,000 dollars in postage on a mailing of one million pieces. Think Ink's new postage solution is most appropriate for mailings of 10,000 and above.
"We've been mailing with Think Ink Marketing for 5 years, and we've constantly seen significantly higher response rates from their hand-addressed envelopes than mailing labels or laser jet printing," says Dan DeBroux, Founder of Dan's Power of Information. "The response rates we achieve with Think Ink are well worth the cost of First-Class postage. But now, with Think Ink's new bulk postage solution, I can get the same high response rates for a fraction of the cost."
