Visionary Expands Metro Ethernet in Wyoming
Visionary Communications announced the addition of fiber-based Metro Ethernet service to the company's arsenal of services in Gillette, Wyoming. Metro Ethernet provides speeds of up to a Gigabit per second, or the equivalent of 647 T1s. This service adds to Visionary's Ethernet over copper product already servicing the company's high-end business clients in the area.
Gillette, WY (PRWEB) October 23, 2008 -- Visionary Communications announced the addition of fiber-based Metro Ethernet service to the company's arsenal of services in Gillette, Wyoming. Metro Ethernet provides speeds of up to a Gigabit per second, or the equivalent of 647 T1s. This service adds to Visionary's Ethernet over copper product already servicing the company's high-end business clients in the area.
The fiber-based Metro Ethernet service will be introduced to Gillette by the first quarter of 2009. The service uses a dedicated pair of fiber to a business location, providing speeds of five Megabits per second (5Mbps) to 1000Mbps. The service is powered by Gigabit Ethernet switches on each end of the connection, and is usually configured as a service between two points. This is referred to as a private configuration.
Another variation of the service uses synchronous DSL to achieve speeds up to 40Mbps/40Mbps, a service already deployed by Visionary in the city of Gillette. Both fiber and copper-based Metro Ethernet services can be configured to communicate with Visionary's Internet hub in Casper or Cheyenne, referred to as a public configuration.

Business applications for the Metro Ethernet service include off-site backups, server synchronization, large file transfers between offices and streaming applications such as video conferencing. Fiber-based services allow business to operate a more centralized network, reducing the cost of network maintenance.
