In Italy and, increasingly, around the world, enjoying wine is about sharing with family and friends

Marco Fantinel, President of Friuli based wine company Fantinel, has announced the launch of the company's Celebrate Life campaign. The Celebrate Life campaign, which began in early 2008, is donating $1.00 for each bottle of special edition Celebrate Life Merlot sold in the United States.

"In Italy and, increasingly, around the world, enjoying wine is about sharing with family and friends," says Fantinel. "Celebrate Life Merlot was created as a means for sharing our family's good fortune as a wine producer with the world and encouraging generosity on a global scale."

The Celebrate Life campaign was conceived by Fantinel, a Goodwill Ambassador to IIMSAM, to support the UN's Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-Algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) in their fight to eradicate global malnutrition. Spirulina is a type of easy-to-grow and easy-to-sustain nutrient-rich algae that is used in developing countries to combat hunger, in particular, child hunger. Contributions made by the Celebrate Life campaign will directly support the production and distribution of this vital nutrient to populations across the globe.

"Celebrate Life is a great opportunity to enjoy good wine while contributing to the efforts of IIMSAM to empower the lives of millions affected by malnutrition globally," says Ambassador Remigio M. Maradona, Director General of IIMSAM. "Celebrate Life is a means for every individual to touch people's lives by becoming part of the campaign."

The Celebrate Life Merlot ($15.00) is a classic example of the Grave del Friuli DOC, an appellation widely considered a first-class expression of this noble grape varietal. The gravely soils of this appellation, in combination with the idyllic growing conditions created by the favorable positioning of vineyards between the Dolomite mountains and the Adriatic Sea, offer ideal conditions for crafting long-lived, outstanding merlot wines. Full bodied and balanced with notes of fresh raspberry fruit, Celebrate Life Merlot lives up to its legacy as a world-class Friulian merlot, while furthering Italy's legacy of global generosity and compassion.
