Three Sixty Design Wins CCASLA 2008 Professional Design Award

Innovative landscape design creates serene courtyard oasis in Cherry Hills Village

Denver, Colo. (PRWEB) October 24, 2008 -- Three Sixty Design, a Denver landscape architecture firm specializing in site planning and sustainable and urban design, has received a Professional Design Award from the Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, principal Courtney McRickard announced today. The award was presented at the CCASLA annual meeting in Breckenridge, Colo.

"We are deeply honored to receive this recognition," McRickard said. "This project was collaboration between Three Sixty Design, the home's architect and contractor and the homeowner. Our collaboration meant that every individual element related to the project as a whole. For the landscape project, we understood the view from the inside of the house, so structures, plantings and water features were deliberately framed in window views. Three Sixty Design's role was to integrate indoor and outdoor landscape into a unified whole."

Located in an older Cherry Hills Village neighborhood of ranch-style architecture, the redesigned property had to maintain its local vernacular while updating the house and site to accommodate the client's needs and lifestyle. The property posed an additional challenge in that it backed on to a major thoroughfare and would be soon overlooked by a 14-story high density development, requiring emphasis on the front part of the property rather than the rear, both for noise mitigation and outdoor living.

Three Sixty Design's landscape plan incorporated a patio area consisting of concrete bands interspersed with striations of groundcover that would permit water absorption into the ground, decreasing the net runoff from the house and roof, and providing water for a stately old honey locust tree. The focal point of the landscape project is a water feature consisting of a water runnel that continually circulates water, divides the front space and leads guests from the drive to the front door.

McRickard said, "This project demonstrates how landscape architects, builders and homeowners can work together to create a space that is innovative, sustainable and livable. The honor of this award is as much theirs as ours, and we are proud to recognize Valleycrest Landscape Development and HW Home, and their contributions to our award."
