Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) October 24, 2008 -- SIR Home, a leading home Grand Rapids home improvement company, is pleased to announce that they are furthering their commitment towards environmental causes by being certified as a Green Business by the Institute for Green Business Certification.
Being certified as officially green means that SIR Home achieves at least a passable grade in each of a series of requirements which focus on conversation and preservation. These requirements include, but are not limited to: compliance with all applicable government environmental regulations, implementation of measures to save energy and conserve various resources, and pledging to maintain the established levels of preservation.
One aspect of meeting the certification requirements proved to be both a challenge, and at the end, a point of pride - SIR Home now recycles all of the glass that it removes from homes it is renovating. This total glass recycling requirement meant that SIR Home had to get creative, finding a way to streamline and automate as much as possible a process that sees the removing all glass and storing those materials onsite while awaiting for a specialist to recycle them. The difficulty of the process became something of a rallying point for SIR Home's Frank Mumford. According to Frank, getting certified as green was important because it showed that SIR Home was willing to live up to what it offers their customers. "We have to walk the walk in order to talk the talk," Mumford said.
SIR Home is also pushing more to walk that walk, as they're readying a process of their own which will allow them to pass the pride of certification, and the energy savings inherent, on to their customers. Following their Green Business certification, SIR Home worked with the National Association of Home Builders to have the authority to officially certify homes as green.
SIR Home believes that reducing energy output and carbon emissions is an important goal for their company, their customers, and the world.
