Creative World Awards (CWA) screenwriting contest announced the top three winning screenplays on Sunday, October 19th.

Grand Prize Winner goes to "Pippa's Song," an inspiring, true story based on a willful, terminally ill journalist who embarks on an incredible journey that alters her fate and leaves an indelible mark on humanity. This is the first screenwriting competition title win for writer Diana Mitchell whose professional background is in marketing and advertising.

First Runner up goes to "You Like Chinese Food," a comedy that follows an awkward young NYC newspaper reporter, who, frustrated by his plans not working out, finds direction in fortune cookies, leading him to fall for the wrong woman while stumbling onto the story of a lifetime. The story was scripted by a duo team of writers from Brooklyn. Ryan Sager is a former editor at the New York Sun, and Jacob Gershman, a former reporter for The New York Sun.

Second Runner up goes to "The Union County Tragedy," a riveting thriller loosely inspired by events that took place in rural Iowa. In the fall of 1984, three escaped convicts' plans go awry while holding a family hostage in their home. The result was a desperate struggle for survival. It was written by another emerging duo, Chris Wimmer, whose background includes production work for Castle Rock Entertainment, Al Gore's Current TV and writer/director Lawrence Kasdan, and Joey McAdams, a stage Director for Current TV.

"We are very proud of our screenwriters and their winning screenplays." The decision was not easy due to the high quality of submissions this year, but we see real potential in each of our top 3 in terms of getting produced. We would like to congratulate each of our writers on their commitment and dedication in producing a well crafted script," said Marlene Neubauer & Heather Waters, Co-founders of CWA.

Creative World Awards is an annual international screenwriting contest. Entries for the 2009 season open in February of 2009.
