Bennett Kuhn Varner, Inc. (BKV) won the e-Philanthropy Gold Award for Fundraising Excellence from FundRaising Success magazine for its "Angel Tree Christmas Countdown" e-Appeal Series. The award was announced in the September issue of FundRaising Success.

"As a company, our focus is on building creative solutions that deliver measurable results," said Brent Kuhn, vice chairman, BKV. "It's an honor to be recognized by our peers in the industry for the results we achieve for our clients."

Since 2005, Fundraising Success Awards have been presented to honor the past year's most successful fundraising campaign approaches in several categories including direct mail acquisition, direct mail renewal, direct-mail special appeal, e-philanthropy and multichannel. The judges scored entries on a scale of 1 to 5 in each of four criteria: results, revenue, copy and creative.

BKV's award-winning entry was an e-Appeal campaign created and executed for Angel Tree® on behalf of client Prison Fellowship, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that strives to break the cycle of crime by partnering with local churches around the country to minister to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families.

Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship, seeks the reconciliation of prisoners and their families to God, to each other, and to their communities. BKV's charge was to design an e-mail fundraising campaign that would cut through the clutter at a time when charity solicitations typically are heaviest--the holidays. The results of the award-winning campaign--which included three e-mails sent with a "countdown" theme--were compelling, with a 51 percent increase over the previous year's fundraising.

BKV's Angel Tree campaign also won the Silver SouthStar Award for excellence in direct marketing from the Direct Marketing Association of Atlanta (DMA Atlanta). The award was presented at the annual SouthStar Awards event in Atlanta on June 5, 2008. The award recognizes companies within the Southeast that display excellence in direct marketing. DMA Atlanta is the leading trade association of businesses and nonprofit organizations using and supporting direct marketing tools and techniques.
