Birmingham, Alabama (PRWEB) October 28, 2008
Patricia Lee, Founder-CEO of Athletes Kickin' Cancer nonprofit, has opened ShopShack.org, an online store created, in part, to help not only her own organization, but others as well.
After hearing media reports about nonprofits/charities and other great causes suffering from the unstable economy, she decided to open the store in an effort to support several worthy causes at a time. ShopShack.org offers name-brand merchandise available to purchase at a discounted rate. Customers simply enter in the code word associated with the cause they want to help at the site's checkout. A 20 percent discount will be applied to the purchase, and ShopShack.org will give back 10 percent of its profit to the customer's selected cause.
Ms. Lee resides in Alabama, is a 49-year-old divorced mother of two, and is a three-time cancer survivor. She is one of the 2005 American Cancer Society Life Inspiration Award winners. Lee has survived Nueroblastoma as a child, a cancerous tumor at the age of 36, and in January 2005, stage 3C breast cancer. You may read more about her on the web site at http://www.AthletesKickinCancer.com. She also has another unique program http://www.SoccerSisters.net that offers scholarships, advice and information for female soccer players.
Lee's healing story may be read in the third chapter of a recently published book titled Behind The Scenes of Breast Cancer by Brenda Ladun, Head News Anchor of the Birmingham, Alabama ABC affiliate. Ladun also holds a Conquer Cancer race once a year to benefit the American Cancer Society. Additionally, ShopShack.org has this race listed as one of the causes available to help. PETA, the National Children's Advocacy Center and the Alabama Gulf Coast chapter of the Red Cross are among others to which the store gives back, and more organizations are being added.
Athletes Kickin' Cancer was founded in March of 2006. The nonprofit has awarded three college scholarships to date. The organization's website also names an Athlete of the Month and honors those athletes by telling their inspirational stories. Athletes Kickin' Cancer is presently raising funds for its Champion of Life College Scholarship Award, as well as for gifts and trips for other honored athletes and their families. Many fund raisers are taking place in November and details are on the web site. If you would like to make a donation, please visit the company's website at http://www.AthletesKickinCancer.com, or shop at http://www.ShopShack.org to help give back.
