Allston Development Group's Gary Younger will present on the use of Vela Systems' field software and Primavera to improve efficiency and eliminate paper for Harvard University's multi-billion dollar Allston expansion. The presentation will take place Tuesday, November 17 at 9:40 A.M at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vela Systems announced today that Gary Younger, projects control manager for Allston Development Group (ADG), will present at the 2008 Primavera Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Younger will explain how the ADG has successfully used Vela Systems' mobile field administration software integrated with Primavera Contract Manager to improve quality, accelerate delivery and create a paperless jobsite.

The presentation, which is titled, "The Owner's Perspective: Why Harvard's Multi-Billion-Dollar Allston Development Initiative is Requiring Primavera, Vela Systems and Tablet PCs," will take place on Tuesday, November 17 at 9:40 A.M at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Younger will explain the owner's perspective on the benefits and challenges of standardizing on a construction management and field software platform for project delivery by demonstrating the results that the ADG has already achieved at the Allston Science Complex. The ADG is responsible for a 50-year, multi-billion-dollar capital plan to build a new Harvard Campus center on the South side of the Charles River in Boston.

Benefits of this new technology platform include:

  •     Saving four days per month in project time;
  •     Reducing risk by ensuring the correct documents are in the field;
  •     Electronic access to plans and documents in the field;
  •     The ability to move all dailies into Primavera electronically as soon as they are submitted
  •     A paperless "Green Jobsite."

"Owners like Harvard's ADG are recognizing the value of field software for construction and mandating its use on multiple projects. By standardizing on Vela Systems, they accelerate project delivery, get better visibility into work progress, all while promoting green construction principles," said Tim Curran, Vela Systems' CEO. "Our solution gives the field the information they need to do their job more effectively, and it removes unnecessary delays in communication from what's happening 'on the ground' so the project moves faster."
