Prenuptial Agreement Offers Protection for Gay Connecticuters

LawDepot.com, a provider of online legal documents, is proud to announce the release of its same-sex prenuptial agreement form, which can be used by couples planning to get married in the state of Connecticut.

As the federal election looms closer, the biggest news surrounding the same-sex marriage issue is California Proposition 8, which proposes eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry. Overshadowed by Prop 8, however, was the October 10 ruling by the Connecticut Supreme Court that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. In light of this announcement, LawDepot.com is pleased to announce the introduction of its Connecticut Same-Sex Prenuptial Agreement.

As in Massachusetts and California, gay and lesbian couples in Connecticut will now need to have access to the same prenuptial protection that is available to heterosexual couples. LawDepot is proud to help provide this protection by creating the Connecticut Same-Sex Prenuptial Agreement--a gender-neutral document that can be used by both homosexual and heterosexual couples.

The same-sex prenup allows gay couples to draft a prenuptial agreement to set out each party's assets, debts, and property rights before marriage. The form also allows the couple to settle issues of property division and support payments in the event of a divorce. And, just like LawDepot's general prenuptial agreement, the same-sex version allows couples to create provisions for any children that either party may have from a previous relationship.

The prospect of being able to get married after what may be years, or even decades of waiting for some couples, may mean that the creation of a prenuptial document is overlooked. While those who do remember to create a prenup may face lengthy wait times as lawyers try to meet the demand.

LawDepot's form is quick and easy-to-use, allowing couples to draft a prenup and get married as quickly as they wish to do so. Because users are able to create the form themselves, without the aid of a lawyer, there will be no need to postpone wedding plans until they can meet with an attorney. And, of course, couples will save money by avoiding costly attorney's fees.
