Door To Door Storage, Inc., a leading national provider of portable self-storage containers and moving services, announced its support for the Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth, which provides needed scholarships, invaluable mentoring, and emergency funding for Washington state's foster children. Door To Door donated $2,000, equivalent to a Governors' Scholarship award, for the 8th Annual Governors' Cup Golf Tournament, held at the "Tournament Players Course" Snoqualmie Ridge on September 15, 2008.

Governor Gary Locke, organizer of the tournament was joined by all living Washington state governors in support of the program, including Governor Chris Gregoire and former Governors Mike Lowry, Booth Gardner, John Spellman, Dan Evans, and Albert Rosellini. Governors Locke, Rosellini, Lowry, and Evans attended the 2008 tournament festivities.

The Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth
The Governors' Scholarship was established in 2001 by Governor Gary Locke during his tenure as governor. Governor Chris Gregoire continues to support the program. Governors' Scholarship awards average $2,000 to $4,000 per year for students depending on the type of institution they attend. Students can use their scholarship for up to four additional years to complete their bachelor's degrees. Students receive on-campus mentoring for the first two years of college to help them be successful.

Since the program began, a total of 177 students have received scholarships. Nineteen of the Governors' Scholarship recipients have graduated and completed the program. Both the Scholarship Program and the Governors' Cup Tournament are administered through the auspices of the College Success Foundation (CSF) - a non-profit foundation which provides college scholarships and mentoring to low-income, high-potential students. Governor Gary Locke serves on the CSF Board of Directors.

"The Governors' Cup Program to benefit the College Success Foundation is an important effort to ensure that our young people in foster programs have equal access to educational opportunities," said Annette Jacobs, president and CEO, Door To Door Storage. "Door To Door Storage is proud to be a part of this effort and it embodies our core mission to participate in a meaningful way to support our community."
