Colleges Respond to Growth in Search Engine Marketing Industry

Search engine marketing (SEM) has exploded over the past few years. Companies have been hiring and training Internet marketers at an exponential rate. With this growth, colleges are now responding with degree programs tailored to meeting this new demand.

Rockford, Illinois (PRWEB) November 3, 2008 -- Growth within the search engine marketing (SEM) industry has seen an exponential increase over the past three years, and by 2011, this industry is forecast to reach $25.2 billion. With such rapid growth, increased job creation in the SEM industry is expected.

According to the 2007 State of the Market Survey by the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, the search engine marketing industry grew from $9.4 billion in 2006 to $12.2 billion in 2007. As the SEM industry continues its successful climb, colleges are responding to this new demand for professionals by offering degrees focused on strategic internet marketing.

Our Internet Marketing degree specialization give students up-to-date knowledge and real-world skills in areas like SEO, SEM and online PR to help them build a successful career and make an immediate impact on their employer's business
Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college, is one of these educational institutions that specializes in internet marketing. Students can obtain their degree in internet marketing through courses offered on campus and online where they will learn from industry professionals who utilize the latest technologies in internet marketing.

"Our Internet Marketing degree specialization give students up-to-date knowledge and real-world skills in areas like SEO, SEM and online PR to help them build a successful career and make an immediate impact on their employer's business," Director of the School of Business Kathy Heldman said.

Over the past three years, the number of SEO jobs has increased 500 percent, compared to traditional marketing and IT positions, according to www.Indeed.com. Average salaries for open SEO positions nationwide are also reported being 11 percent higher than average salaries for all job postings nationwide.

"The Internet is changing the game for many organizations. Employers are constantly challenged with finding candidates who have strong, relevant online marketing skills," Heldman said. "At Rasmussen College, our Internet Marketing students graduate with the knowledge-base and skill set required to be successful in their field. As the Internet continues to change the way companies operate, we need to make sure we are educating our students to meet these needs."

The Internet Marketing specialization is a component of the Associate's degree in Business Management within the School of Business at Rasmussen College. The Minnesota campuses of Rasmussen College also offer a Bachelor's degree specialization in Internet Marketing within the Business Management degree.
