Living-e AG announced that it is offering its successful content management system webEdition 6 as open source software as of today. Living-e is proud to also extend professional services support by the professional developer team to end-users and freelancers as needed.

Karlsruhe, Germany (PRWEB) November 3, 2008 -- Living-e AG announced that it is offering its successful content management system webEdition 6 as open source software as of today. Living-e is proud to also extend professional services support by the professional developer team to end-users and freelancers as needed. The support services include support tickets as well as training, project support and services offered at an affordable hourly rate. webEdition 6 can be downloaded as an unlimited full-version and is available free-of-charge at http://www.webedition.de. Previously sold as licensed software, CMS is distinguished by its quick implementation and simple handling.

On the technical side, webEdition 6 offers new functions which provide developers and the user community with a particularly simple approach to programming. While the new Software Development Kit (SDK) facilitates the creation of applications for webEdition, the versioning function ensures that earlier versions of already processed documents and objects are stored, making them available for processing in case of loss of the current version. In addition, webEdition 6 contains a mail option for the open source standard PHP mailer as well as an interface to the web shop tracking solution by Econda.

Open Source As a Strategy

Sold since 2001 as licensed software, the source code of CMS can now be customized to meet individual requirements. "We are convinced that the open source approach allows the faster adoption and integration of webEdition into more application environments," said Holger Meyer, head developer of webEdition. "Therefore it was the next logical step in the lifecycle of our product."

"Since the introduction of webEdition, we have sold more than 50,000 licenses, mainly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, representing a large and passionate customer and community base. We now invite everyone to personalize their commitment to webEdition by experimenting to their hearts' content. We cannot wait to see the first results," said Guido Polko, founder and member of the Living-e AG management board.
