Sport Court® Key Player In FIBA Beach Basketball

Test Games In Run-Up To 2010 World Youth Olympic Games

Bali, Indonesia (PRWEB) November 2, 2008 -- It's new, it's exciting, and Connor Sport Court International is a major part of the Federation Internationale de Basketball's (FIBA) pilot 3 on 3 basketball program.

"Called 'FIBA 33,' the test events were played most recently in Bali and prior to that in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic," said Ron Cerny, president of Sport Court®. Custom graphics were created at Sport Court's Salt Lake City manufacturing facility and then shipped to the test sites.

FIBA 33 teams play 3 versus 3 and to 33 points. FIBA 33 is the version of basketball to be played at the inaugural Youth Olympics Game to be held in Singapore in 2010. FIBA believes this version of the game is excellent for skill development of young players.

Andrew Gettig, vice president of the International Division of Sport Court, who was an advisor at both FIBA 33 events, said, "Sand and water were not an issue with our PowerGame™ surface during the tests. Because of its design and construction, PowerGame drains nicely and provides perfect bounce for the ball." Gettig was in charge of design and construction of the courts in Boca Chica and Bali.

Sport Court has been a member of the FIBA Study Center since 1994 and recently received FIBA's Research and Study Center award for contribution to the development of the sport of basketball around the world. The Sport Court PowerGame surface is approved by FIBA for all outdoor competition at the international level.

In the recent Bali event, the boys team representing Indian won the gold medal for the Asian Beach Games, while the Philippines took the Silver and Malaysia the Bronze. In the girls tournament the gold went to Japan, the Silver to Thailand, and India claimed the bronze medal. It was the first medal of any sort for India at a FIBA competition and shows the great potential for basketball in the subcontinent.

More athletic events are played on Connor Sport Court surfaces than on any other sports flooring in the world. Connor sports floors have established themselves as the standard for professional and collegiate sports since the company was founded in 1872. Sport Court® is a registered trade mark of Connor Sport Court International. Since 1974, it has identified the original and authentic modular sport surface, continuously improved and patented to provide the highest levels of quality and performance
