VTTI Spinoff Company Develops Technologies to Avoid Traffic Accidents
TranSecurity, LLC develops new system, DriveVision Pro, designed to reduce the likelihood of accidents involving the more than two million large commercial trucks currently traveling on American highways.
Blacksburg, VA (PRWEB) November 3, 2008 -- TranSecurity, LLC, a local spinoff company of the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), is developing a novel technology called DriveVision Pro that will monitor commercial drivers to improve performance feedback and provide collision warnings. The system is designed to reduce the likelihood of accidents involving the more than two million large commercial trucks currently traveling on American highways.
DriveVision Pro monitors the environment around the vehicle and creates a log of vehicle performance, road conditions, and the actions of other vehicles which can be used to determine if drivers are a crash-risk or a cost-risk for their employers. The system transfers the collected data for analysis and expert evaluation, allowing the employer to provide driver feedback, further training or other actions.
The DriveVision Pro system is based on one of many VTTI-developed technologies that TranSecurity has licensed for commercial development.
Michael Mollenhauer, president of TranSecurity, said the company's purpose is to help reduce personal and corporate exposure to financial losses, injuries and deaths resulting from preventable traffic accidents.
"Our mission is a dual mission: to grow the company and make it strong, and improve driver safety for companies with large fleets," said Mollenhauer.
The company was established in May of 2006 and is a member of the VT KnowledgeWorks business acceleration center within the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. It has already gained significant momentum and has been awarded a Department of Transportation contract based on the technologies currently in development.
TranSecurity licensed the VTTI technologies from Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties, Inc. (VTIP), a non-profit corporation which manages the protection and licensing of inventions and facilitates technology transfer for Virginia Tech.
"This startup is a great model for how Virginia Tech, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, and VTIP can all work together with the most important ingredient, the faculty founders of TranSecurity, to launch a new company," said Mark Coburn, president of VTIP.
