Mom-and-Daughter Team Launch New Developmental Toy for Toddlers
Introducing BuckleyBoo - a growing menagerie of of developmental toys based on cognitive development and sequential learning.
Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) November 3, 2008 -- Introducing BuckleyBoo - a growing menagerie of of developmental toys based on cognitive development and sequential learning. Babies love buckles, as all parents know. Each buckle is a manipulative and mental challenge and a conundrum of the adult world. Buckles are even more irresistible when appointing the tummy of an adorable dog, cat, or bear.
BuckleyBoo is a new toy line that lets babies buckle and unbuckle to their hearts' content while they learn problem solving, small motor skills, and visual scanning, all of which are crucial aspects of early childhood development. The BuckleyBoo menagerie consists of BuckleyDog, BuckleyCat, and BuckleyBear. There are additional products in development, including a bunny, pig and monkey.
Emily Ross, president and co-founder of BuckleyBoo, said that the BuckleyBoo line was inspired by her niece, who at 18 months had a life mission of unraveling the secret of her highchair straps. "If you sat my niece in the middle of a Toys R' Us with something that buckles - say an old handbag - she would not stir an inch. The latest and greatest Christmas item, Tickle Me Elmo? Not interested. Rather than waste any more money on toys she did not want to play with, I decided to create a toy that she would play with."
Emily designed BuckleyBoo with her mother, Jane Ross, PsyD., a psychologist with a specialty in early childhood education, and the two banged out a prototype on the old family sewing machine.
"It looked," says Emily, "like a giant blue hot dog with eyes and mouth, but my niece loved it, and, more than a year later, she still does. She serves it tea, takes it to bed, and continues to refine her buckling skills. More than anything, I think, she likes to say the word 'BuckleyBoo.' It's a bouncing ball of a word. It would make Dr. Seuss proud."
Dr. Ross was so impressed with the toy's educational potential that she agreed to join BuckleyBoo as a full partner. "I spend every day on the floor with kids playing while we talk," she said. "The best toys are simple and to the point. They foster a specific and developmentally appropriate skill. BuckleyBoo ranks with the best. I give my daughter a lot of credit for her sound instinct."
The Buckley line is intended for babies and toddlers, age fifteen months to four years. The beauty of each Buckley buddy is that it will grow with the child. Brows furrowed, babies will at first fumble in the attempt to buckle. Having mastered buckling, they will progress to unbuckling. With both buckling and unbuckling mastered, they will continue to adore their BuckleyBoo as a huggable old friend.
BuckleyBoo is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where both Emily and Jane live. BuckleyBoo officially unveiled its line of toys at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, September 5-11, 2008.
The first generation of BuckleyBoos is now available for purchase. The company's website, http://www.buckleyboo.com provides a colorful, interactive introduction to the world of BuckleyBoo.
