Miller & Smith Named "2008 Builder of the Year" by Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association

Miller & Smith, the Washington region's most award-winning homebuilder, was recently named the 2008 Builder of the Year in the category of large volume builders by the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA).

McLean, VA (PRWEB) November 5, 2008 -- Miller & Smith, the Washington region's most award-winning homebuilder, was recently named the 2008 Builder of the Year in the category of large volume builders by the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA).

This distinction is especially noteworthy because Miller & Smith didn't submit itself for consideration. Rather, MNCBIA submitted the names of every builder in the region and invited members of the association and the subcontractors who work with the builders to cast their ballots. Among all of the large volume builders in the region, Miller & Smith received the most votes for 2008 Builder of the Year.

"Earning the respect of our peers is especially rewarding because they understand what it takes to build a great home," said Lauri Payson, Vice President of Marketing, Miller & Smith. "The fact that so many roofers, masons, electricians, painters, and other craftsmen believe in us is equally gratifying because they're such an important part of our team. We share this award with them and with everyone who works so hard to make Miller & Smith the region's most innovative and respected homebuilder."

Miller & Smith is a perennial favorite to win design competitions. Winning Builder of the Year, however, demonstrates that Miller & Smith's commitment to excellence goes beyond design and includes every facet of the homebuilding process.

With Miller & Smith, the process of building special homes and communities always starts with the land. Its community development team is highly regarded for its ability to create environmentally sensitive neighborhoods that harmoniously integrate land and architecture. In fact, in addition to winning Builder of the Year, Miller & Smith received MNCBIA's 2008 Environmental Award for its Woodcrest community in Clarksburg, Maryland.

Located just minutes from I-270, Woodcrest is situated on 47-acres nestled against Montgomery County's natural gem, the 3,700-acre Little Bennett Regional Park. Throughout the land development process at Woodcrest, Miller & Smith went to great lengths to protect and enhance the environment.

Green-minded homebuyers will appreciate the fact that nearly 31 of Woodcrest's 47 acres are dedicated to open space, including 11 acres of forest preservation and an 8-acre park with bike paths that promote eco-friendly transportation.

Miller & Smith also met or exceeded all relevant environmental protection requirements. It incorporated oversized sediment control facilities to minimize sediment runoff during construction. It engaged in a stream restoration project to mitigate erosion. And it constructed a Bio-Retention facility to treat storm water runoff from adjacent Little Bennett Regional Park facilities. The result is a community that lives well, respects the environment, and incorporates the beauty and tranquility of its magnificent surroundings.

Miller & Smith is the third largest private homebuilder in the Washington Metropolitan area. Founded in 1964, it has built over 5,000 single family homes, 8,000 townhomes and 2,000 condominiums, and developed 12,000 homesites in 87 communities throughout Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. Along the way, Miller & Smith has earned a reputation for creating homes and communities that stand out for their inventiveness and imagination.

Miller & Smith is currently selling single family homes, townhomes and condominiums in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware from the $200's to the $800's. For information on immediate delivery homes and directions to its communities, please visit http://www.MillerAndSmith.com/
