The Challenge - Cablevision's Award-Winning High School Quiz Show - Starts 12th Season This Week

Students From More Than 180 Area High Schools In Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester/Hudson Valley, The Bronx and Brooklyn Will Compete For Tri-State Championship

Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) November 5, 2008 -- Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) announced today that The Challenge, its award-winning high school quiz show, will start its 12th Season this Saturday, November 8, with more high schools and students competing than ever before. Nearly 1,000 students from more than 180 participating high schools in Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester/Hudson Valley, the Bronx and Brooklyn will face off this year, with the goal of becoming the Tri-State Challenge Champion and winning $10,000 for their school and $500 for each team member competing in the final round. The winning team in each region is guaranteed $2,500.

Teams are made up of the best and brightest local high school students, who compete for the championship based on their knowledge of history, math, science, and arts and literature. Viewers can play along and watch The Challenge on News 12 every Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm beginning on November 8, 2008, and anytime thereafter through the convenience of video on demand (VOD) through News 12 Interactive, located on iO TV channel 612 or by going to www.powertolearn.com and clicking on The Challenge.

The Challenge, which began 12 years ago on Long Island, is an important element of Cablevision's education initiative, Power to Learn, and has received a Beacon Award -- the cable industry's highest award for public-affairs excellence -- as well as a New England Cable & Telecommunications (NECTA) Award for Public Service and Excellence in Cable Television.
