Signature Custom Cabinetry Presents 'Harbor View' Kitchen Concept - Traditional Comfort and Style with Modern Twist
The Harbor View kitchen concept is based on familiar comfortable elements that create a warm aesthetic. The concept is a back-to-basics design which integrates details such as an apple core leg, draped mullion arched glass-front doors and carvings inspired by those found in early twentith century homes. The concept was designed exclusively by John Bradford Brandon for Signature Custom Cabinetry in Ephrata, PA.
Ephrata, PA (PRWEB) November 6, 2008 -- Most baby boomers - about 72 million of them - grew up knowing their grandparents and the history of their immigration. They probably sat in a chair their grandparents brought from the "old country" or had dinner at the table their grandfather built. It was a simpler time; families connected as a unit every night at the dinner table and they watched TV together in the same room. However, with today's non-stop activity and the need for dual incomes, family time can be scarce.

"In today's harried world, with the family moving in so many directions, having a respite of comfort and familiarity is important to a growing family," said Kent Martin, president and CEO of Signature Custom Cabinetry in Ephrata, PA. "While they may be concerned with modern conveniences and schedules, creating a haven of warmth with, perhaps a bit of tradition from generations before, has become a priority."
Whether by choice or economics, families are spending more time at home, and therefore investing more in their homes. According to William Apgar, a Senior Scholar at Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies, homeowner remodeling activity is expected to increase 44% from 2008 to 2015, that's about 3.8% per year.
Remodelers are trending toward a simplified and efficient place where they can be surrounded by the comfort of past experiences with space to create new adventures. Signature Custom Cabinetry has created such a place in the "Harbor View" kitchen concept designed exclusively by John Bradford Brandon, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London. The kitchen concept features well-organized amenities and decoration inspired by the furniture of our grandparents while being honest to our modern, and sometimes unconventional, lifestyle.
Two exclusively designed door styles form the foundation of the kitchen concept. The Harbor View raised panel door features a modern twist on the beading and carving details of turn of the century furniture. The cabinetry is finished in a custom stain, Harbor View on cherry, which captures the warmth of yesteryear and is accented with Cordovan cherry finish. The second door style, Drape Mullion, with an arched glass front, references the popular architecture of the period.
Built-in storage solutions, inspired by the past but with today's needs in mind, make the Harbor View kitchen a practical and functional work space. A larder cabinet with louvered doors above the sink is perfect for storing serving pieces. Apothecary style drawers are ideal for keeping kitchen gadgets easy to find and a column of cubbies provide neat storage for wine bottles. The mantel style hood above the Viking cooktop accented with custom Serpentine carving features a plate ledge for display and under-hood side shelving to keep spices and oils convenient.
The island is the center of the kitchen with ample work surface for food preparation or school projects and space for family and friends to gather for conversation. The island features furniture style details such as, Apple Core legs, and Harbor View bun feet.
"A home's unique details create warmth and memories. That's one of the major benefits of choosing custom cabinetry; you can choose the details that set the stage for your family's history," said John Bradford Brandon, designer. "The major focus of the Harbor View concept focuses on details that capture the essence of our country's immigrants while giving a nod to today's modern lifestyle."
