The Scotch Malt Whisky Society today announces the largest single release of single cask, single malt whisky in Society history. The release, part of the Society 25th birthday celebrations, provides Society members with the widest selection of single cask, single malt whisky in the world.
Edinburgh, UK (PRWEB) November 8, 2008 -- Today, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, as part of their 25th anniversary, issues its biggest single release of new single cask single malt whisky bottlings at any one time. Never in 25 years of the Society's history have 43 casks from 41 different distilleries been bottled ahead of the Christmas season. This momentous cask bottling ranges in age from 6 to 40 year old whisky at a variety of prices.
How are the single cask whisky bottlings chosen?
Every single whisky cask has been sampled and passed for bottling by the Society's esteemed Tasting Panel who creates a unique tasting note for each. As single cask whiskies have enormous character from years of maturing in wooden casks, the sophistication and range of aromas and flavours often lead to delightful and somewhat curious names.
The Society's winter bottlings names range from 'Hot and spicy Christmas pudding', to 'Frisky whisky'. Society drams are identified by flavour profile and distillery / cask number. This way the true value of one single cask whisky over another is never clouded by personal perceptions of a particular brand or label.
This extensive release of fine single malt whisky comes from casks from every region of Scotland. The winter list goes on sale to Society members on Fri 7 Nov and features 3 Lowland single malt whiskies, 10 Highland Whiskies, 19 Speysiders, 2 Campbeltown drams and 7 Islay Malts.
Scotch Malt Whisky Society diversifies
From time to time the Society goes beyond its roots in fine and rare single malt whiskies.
The winter bottling list features a 22 year old single cask Armagnac, an 8 year old Society Liqueur, a 15 year old single cask Rum from Trinidad as well as two fine single cask grain whiskies.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society started 25 years ago when a group of discerning friends shared the price of a single cask of fine malt whisky. The aroma of the cask was wonderful and it tasted even better. It was the first of many!
Today the Society continues to bottle only single casks from a range of 125 malt whisky distilleries. Only the very best single cask, single malt whisky is selected, having been approved by the Society's Tasting Panel.
